Arriving By Plane.

Townsville has direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and is serviced by Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin.

  • There is an airport shuttle to the Breakwater ferry Terminal for $9 per person one way.
  • Taxi from the airport to the Breakwater Ferry Terminal takes 10 minutes for around $15.

Arriving by Bus.

Arriving by Car.

Townsville is approx. 3 hours drive north from Airlie Beach and 4 ½ hours drive south of Cairns.

If you wish to take your vehicle to Magnetic Island, (there is a network of roads of approx. 60km linking West Point, Picnic Bay, Nelly Bay, Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay) .

The vehicular barge is situated in the city on Ross Creek in Ross Street, off Palmer Street, South Townsville.

Arriving by Rail.

Queensland Rail operate 6 weekly services from Brisbane or Cairns and 3 weekly services from the inland of Mt. Isa. The railway station is situated within the city and is approx $11 by taxi and a 10 minute ride to the ferry terminal.

Ferry to Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island, is located 20 minutes by ferry from Townsville, North Queensland.


Arriving on Magnetic Island,

Both Sunferries and Fantasea Cruises arrive at Nelly Bay Harbour.

Sunferries.

Departs from the Breakwater Ferry Terminal situated on Ross Creek in Sir Leslie Thiess Drive.

The trip to Magnetic Island, on fast ferries takes approx 20 minutes (no bookings required) and if you have pre-purchased a package, you can collect your ferry ticket at the sales counter.

There is unsecured paid parking at the terminal.

provides regular service.

  • Standard vehicle (includes camper van under 5 metres and 2 ton)
    - $144 return includes a family.
  • Camper vans over 6 metres is $178. Loading time is 20 minutes prior to departure.
  • Secure parking is available at $5 per night, $3 per day for those who wish to leave their car.
  • Walk on passengers are $22 return.

Public bus meets all ferry arrivals to Magnetic Island, and will drop off at Bungalow Bay front door.

Magnetic Island, Bus Service meets the Sunferries services day and night.

Jump on the Horseshoe Bay bus for a 15 minute ride (7kms) and you will be dropped right at the front door of Bungalow Bay Koala Village.

Taxi fare from the Nelly Bay Harbour Terminal to Bungalow Bay Koala Village is approx. $15
